So you thought about it! O.K., so ahead and think some more and see if you can guess the answers to these questions!

ballerina After I wrote Noelle of the Nutcracker, a story about a little girl who loves to dance and an ambitious ballerina doll who wants to star in the Nutcracker ballet, children began asking me if I wanted to be a ballerina when I grew up. Take a look at the picture below of me dressed up for my third-grade ballet recital. Do you think my dream in life was to become a famous ballerina?

Moose on the Loose is the story of Benjamin, who befriends a runaway (and very hungry!) moose. But that’s just a tall tale, right? Or is it?

moose P.S. This moose ran away after I wrote my book!

HalloweenI got the inspiration for the big spooky house in Halloween Hide-and-Seek from this house in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, near where I live. house

This is how Julie Durrell, the illustrator drew the house for the book. house How would you draw it?

hot air balloonIn Winky Blue Forever, Rosie goes “over the rainbow” in a hot-air balloon to search for her lost bird. Guess what I decided I had to do to write that part of the story as though I really knew what I was talking about? If you guessed “go up in a hot-air balloon,” you’re right!

air balloon I got a little scared when the balloon started to take off but…whoops! It’s too late to change my mind!

lake Everyone needs a quiet corner to write, walk, or dream. This is one of my favorite places to walk near my house. My daughter used to love to curl up under her loft bed and write. What’s your favorite quiet corner? You can write a story about it or email me!

annelise P.S. Most of my books are funny and fast-paced. They don’t put kids to sleep—at least not usually!
